Weddings at Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Home Venues Brooklyn Botanic Garden

There’s a moment that happens at almost every Brooklyn Botanic Garden wedding I’ve worked. It’s usually during cocktail hour on the Lily Pool Terrace, right when the sun starts doing that golden afternoon thing.

Someone in the wedding party stops mid-conversation, looks around at the glass-walled Palm House behind them and the gardens stretching out in every direction, and says something like, “How is this real? We’re still in Brooklyn?”

I’ve been performing at weddings across New York City for over a decade now, and I’ve seen a lot of “pinch me” moments. But something about this venue hits differently. Maybe it’s because you take the 2/3 train, walk past some brownstones, and suddenly you’re standing in 52 acres of botanical paradise.

Maybe it’s because the venue has been hosting weddings since before your great-grandparents were born (it opened in 1910, if you’re counting). Or maybe it’s because every single time I set up here, I notice something new blooming.

Here’s the thing about Brooklyn Botanic Garden: it doesn’t need to try hard.

The cherry blossoms in spring, the 5,000 rose bushes in early summer, the fall foliage that makes your photographer weep with joy—it’s all just there, being impossibly beautiful, while your guests eat Danny Meyer’s catering and you get married in what feels like a secret garden in the middle of the city.

Why Brooklyn Botanic Garden Makes Sense for Your Wedding

Look, there are a lot of pretty venues in New York.
But Brooklyn Botanic Garden has some practical magic that goes beyond the Instagram factor.

The Location Is Actually Perfect

You’re in Brooklyn, accessible by three different subway lines. Your aunt from Long Island? She can drive and park (there’s an attended lot at 900 Washington Avenue). Your friends who refuse to leave Manhattan? B/Q train to Prospect Park, done. Your cousin who just moved to Brooklyn and doesn’t own a car? She’s golden. I can’t tell you how many weddings I’ve worked where half the guests showed up stressed because they got lost driving somewhere upstate. That doesn’t happen here.

It's a Real Escape Without the Escape

Here’s what I mean: you get the feeling of being somewhere far away—surrounded by nature, away from city noise, breathing actual fresh air—but nobody had to rent a car or book a hotel. Your guests can dance until the end of the night and still be home in time to walk their dogs. That’s a gift.

The Gardens Do the Decorating for You

I’ve watched couples spend tens of thousands on florals and decor trying to transform generic hotel ballrooms. At Brooklyn Botanic Garden, you walk in and the venue is already stunning. Those floor-to-ceiling glass walls at the Palm House? They’re your decor. The Cherry Esplanade views from the Atrium? That’s your backdrop. You can obviously still add your personal touches, but you’re not starting from zero.

Union Square Events Handles the Food

This isn’t just “good catering.” This is Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group—the same people behind Shake Shack, Union Square Cafe, and Gramercy Tavern. I’ve eaten at a lot of wedding venue caterer meals over the years (more than I care to count), and the difference here is noticeable. Your guests will actually remember the food.

You're Supporting Something Real

When you rent this space, you’re supporting a conservation and education mission that’s been running for over a century. There’s something meaningful about starting your marriage in a place that’s dedicated to helping things grow. Cheesy? Maybe. But I’ve been in this business long enough to know that the venue’s vibe matters more than people think.

The Spaces (And What They're Actually Like)

Let me walk you through these, because they’re not interchangeable—each one has its own personality.

The Palm House

This is the showstopper. Up to 250 seated guests in an iconic glass-walled structure that puts the Garden right at your fingertips. When you book the Palm House, you’re not just getting a reception venue—you get access to Garden locations for your ceremony, an outdoor terrace for cocktails, and the exquisite Palm House itself for your reception and dancing.
From a performer’s perspective, I love this room. The acoustics are solid, the layout gives us plenty of space to set up, and the natural light pouring through those glass walls creates an atmosphere that’s hard to replicate anywhere else. When the sun sets and the garden lights start to glow outside? Your guests aren’t going to want to stop dancing.
The flow works beautifully: ceremony in one of the Garden’s stunning outdoor locations, cocktails on the terrace, then dinner and dancing in the main space. You’re moving through a complete Garden experience, and each transition feels intentional.

The Lillian and Amy Goldman Atrium

Smaller capacity—up to 125 seated guests—but if your guest list fits, this space is special. The sinuous floor-to-ceiling glass walls overlook the Cherry Esplanade, and the whole building features a living roof of native grasses and wildflowers. It’s eco-conscious architecture that actually looks beautiful, not just virtuous.
This is the room for intimate weddings where you want every guest to feel like they’re part of something, not just attending something. The space is modern and elegant, but it doesn’t feel cold. (Sounds weird, but some modern spaces just fight against warmth. This one doesn’t.)
For sound, the Atrium handles music really well. We’re not fighting crazy echo or weird dead spots. And the connection to the outdoor terrace means you can do that indoor-outdoor flow without any awkwardness.
Like the Palm House, when you book the Atrium, you get access to Garden locations for your ceremony. Some restrictions may apply, so talk to their events team about which spots are available and what timing works best.

Garden Ceremony Locations

Both the Palm House and Atrium rentals come with access to the Garden’s beautiful outdoor spaces for your ceremony. You’re looking at a genuine botanical oasis—trees, flower borders, pastoral lawns—and the team will work with you to find the perfect spot that fits your vision and your timing.
The Garden offers an intimate, luxurious setting that makes your wedding feel like it’s happening somewhere truly special. And because you’re booking the reception space, you get the flexibility and support to make the ceremony piece work seamlessly with the rest of your day.

What It Costs (The Real Talk)

Alright, let’s address this directly.

The ceremony-only garden packages are the budget-friendly entry point: $628 for up to 50 guests, with the option to add up to 10 more at $22 per person. But you’re getting exactly what that sounds like—one hour in a garden, stand-up ceremony, no food, no chairs, no backup plan if it rains. It’s great for intimate ceremonies, but it’s not a full wedding experience.
For the full-service weddings at the Palm House or Atrium, Brooklyn Botanic Garden doesn’t publish their pricing online. You’ll need to submit an inquiry through their website (bbg.org/visit/private_event_inquiry) or email catering@bbg.org to get a real quote.
What I can tell you from working events here: this is a premium venue with Union Square Events as the exclusive caterer. You’re paying for the historic setting, the award-winning food, and the fact that you’re getting married in one of the most beautiful botanical gardens in the country. Is it budget-friendly? No. Is it worth it for the right couple? Absolutely.
Factors that’ll affect your final number:
  • Guest count (the Palm House handles up to 250, the Atrium up to 125)
  • Menu selections through Union Square Events
  • Bar packages
  • Additional services and rentals
  • Season and day of week

My honest advice: reach out early, be upfront about your budget, and ask what’s possible. The events team has been doing this a long time—they can help you figure out if this venue works for your numbers.

Why DLE Event Group for Your Brooklyn Botanic Garden Wedding

Not to toot my own horn here—actually, yes, absolutely to toot my own horn—but DLE Event Group has been performing at Brooklyn Botanic Garden for years. We know this venue.
Here’s what that means for you:
We’ve worked the Palm House enough times to know exactly how sound travels in that glass-walled space. We know where to set up so your ceremony music carries perfectly and your reception gets the energy it deserves. We’ve navigated the load-in process, coordinated with the events team, and figured out the quirks that every unique venue has.
Our hybrid DJ band approach works especially well here. The Palm House and Atrium are sophisticated spaces—you want entertainment that matches that energy. Live musicians for your ceremony and cocktail hour (strings, sax, guitar, whatever fits your vibe), then the full hybrid experience for your reception where our DJ and live performers create something that’s more dynamic than either one alone.

We’ve played acoustic sets by the Lily Pool Terrace while guests sipped cocktails and watched the sunset. We’ve gotten 250 guests on their feet in the Palm House for hora that you could probably hear in Prospect Park. We’ve worked with Union Square Events to nail the timing between courses and music. This is what we do.
And look—Brooklyn Botanic Garden weddings tend to attract couples who care about quality and authenticity. You chose this venue because you wanted something special, not generic. That’s exactly our approach to entertainment. We’re not a cookie-cutter DJ service; we’re a group of professional musicians who’ve spent years figuring out how to make weddings feel genuinely epic.
One more thing: we’re in The Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame (11 times, if you’re counting). We’ve performed over 100 weddings across NYC’s top venues. We’re inclusive of all cultures, religions, and LGBTQ+ couples. Whatever your vision is, we’ve probably done something similar and can help you make it happen.

Other NYC Wedding Venues Worth Exploring

Brooklyn Botanic Garden is incredible, but it’s not the only game in town. If you’re still in the exploration phase, here are some other venues where DLE Event Group performs regularly:

We’ve worked weddings across NYC’s most iconic spaces—from the grand ballrooms of The Plaza Hotel to the modern elegance of venues like Guastavino’s and The Foundry. We’ve performed at rooftop celebrations, historic mansions, waterfront properties, and intimate restaurant buyouts throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and beyond.

Each venue has its own personality and its own acoustic challenges. That’s why we love what we do—no two weddings are ever the same.

FAQs

The Palm House holds up to 250 seated guests. The Atrium is more intimate, at up to 125 seated. For the outdoor ceremony-only packages, you’re looking at 60 people maximum (50 base, plus up to 10 additional).
Yes, but there are a few options. If you rent the Palm House or Atrium, you can typically do your ceremony on the outdoor terrace or potentially in one of the garden areas (talk to the events team about what’s available). The standalone ceremony-only packages are just that—ceremony only, in the gardens, 9-10 AM on weekends, no food or reception.
Union Square Events is the exclusive caterer. They’re part of Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, so you’re in excellent hands. You don’t have the option to bring in outside caterers, but honestly, you won’t want to.
The good dates go fast—especially spring (cherry blossom season) and fall. I’d recommend reaching out at least 12-18 months in advance if you have a specific date in mind. And the same goes for booking DLE Event Group; our calendar fills up, and I hate telling couples their preferred date isn’t available.
There’s an attended lot at 900 Washington Avenue with decent rates (up to $24 for 8 hours), but capacity is limited. I always recommend encouraging guests to take public transit—there are three subway options (2/3, B/Q/S, 4/5) and multiple bus routes. For guests driving from out of town, you might consider coordinating a shuttle from a nearby hotel.
For full-service events at the Palm House or Atrium, you’re covered—you have the indoor space. For the ceremony-only garden packages, it’s rain or shine with no indoor backup. That’s the gamble with early-morning outdoor ceremonies.
Yes! Brooklyn Botanic Garden works with outside entertainment vendors. I’d recommend working with someone who has experience at the venue—there are specifics about power, setup timing, and coordination with Union Square Events that make things go smoother.
Yes, Brooklyn Botanic Garden has strong accessibility features. All three entrances are wheelchair accessible, nearby subway stations have elevators, and there are paved pathways throughout the garden. The Fragrance Garden was actually the first garden in America designed for visually impaired visitors. Contact accessibility@bbg.org if you have guests with specific needs—they’re great at coordinating accommodations.
